A new chapter in the sad saga of Bobby Shmurda was written today when the Brooklyn MC accepted a plea deal in his murder conspiracy case in a last-ditch effort to avoid a life sentence in prison. Just two years ago Bobby was one of the more promising young artists in the game, enjoying huge success from the popularity of his “Hot Nigga” single. With this new plea, which TMZ reports he was urged to accept by his attorney, he is looking at a 7-year sentence plus an additional 5 years of probation.
UPDATED with a statement from Bobby’s attorney below.
Had he fought the case and blew trial, he could have possibly received life in prison due to the extensive charges he and his crew were facing. Bobby officially pleaded guilty to 4th-degree conspiracy, conspiracy to possess weapons and possession of a weapon and his other charges were dismissed. His GS9 cohorts Rowdy Rebel and Nicholas McCoy also accepted the same deal and face the same sentence. Bobby will be credited for the two years he has spent in jail to date, so he will likely only serve 5 years. Their sentencing is set for October 19th.
UPDATE: In a statement issued to FADER, Bobby’s lawyer added the following:
“His sentence of 7 years, with credit for 2 years already served and good time credit will hopefully permit him to be home in approximately 3 1⁄2 years and resume his remarkable career. This plea also covers a separate Bronx Indictment.”
